Good Friday is a major festival of Christianity, celebrated on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It is said that on this day Jesus Christ was tortured and crucified. Therefore, Christians celebrate Good Friday as the Sacrifice Day of Jesus Christ and Black Day.
On Good Friday, people of the Christian community go to church to pray and remember Lord Jesus. However, church bells are not rung on Good Friday. But wooden rattles are played. On Good Friday, let us know about such churches of the country which are very famous.
St. Philomena’s Church: This church located in Mysore was built in 1936. St. Philomena’s Church is said to be the tallest church in Asia and was constructed in Neo-Gothic style.
St. Thomas Church: Located in Kochi, Kerala, this church is famous and is the oldest church in the country. This is the first church in India, where the bone of the right hand of St. Thomas is kept. Saint Thomas was one of the main disciples of Jesus Christ. It is said that Christianity in India started from the coastal town of Cranganore in Kerala and St. Thomas was the first to introduce Christianity in India.
St. Paul’s Cathedral Church: This church located in Kolkata is very famous for its architecture. Its foundation stone was laid in 1839 and this church was completed in 1847. This church is said to be the first Episcopal Church of Asia.
Christ Church: Located on the ridge grounds of Shimla, this church was built during the British rule. This is the second and oldest church of North India, built during the British rule. It is called the Taj of Shimla, because it looks like a crown from many kilometers away.
